We'll call it progress!

Meg and I went to our 39 week OB appointment this afternoon. Meg gained another 2 lbs (I think she's starting to freak out!) The technician couldn't get a clear reading of Avery's heartbeat, so she made a note in Meg's chart.

The doctor checked Avery's heartbeat with the doppler and concluded that she was in the 120 range (she's usually between 140-160). She told us that it is normal for their rate to slow down as they grow and that it was nothing to worry about. I asked her if it was an indication of labor, but she said Avery could just be sleeping.

The doctor then performed an internal exam. Meg was a "fingertip" dilated (half a cm). We'll call it progress!

Our next appointment is Monday!

I know it's been a few days since I last blogged, so I just wanted to give you an update... Meg and I have been busy getting ready for the new school year (she came to school with my mom and I and organized my classroom library!!) She's still feeling nauseous and doesn't seem to have much of an appetite. She claims that it's all worth it, so that's a good sign! Friday is our next ultrasound appointment...I think we're supposed to hear the heartbeat, so that's exciting! With only 2-4 weeks left at RMA we're running out of time to find an obgyn. This afternoon I spoke with a receptionist from a doctor's office affiliated with a brand new hospital opening in November. It's only 17 minutes from our house, so it's perfect AND it's located in NJ, so my name can go on the birth certificate at the time of the birth. BONUS! The receptionist was really nice. Finally...

FINALLY!!! It was only a matter of time before we heard some good news... Today, Meg had her 41 week appointment. They took us back to exam room 3...hooked her up to the monitors for a nonstress test. Avery was very active and looked great. Meg even had 3 minor contractions. Unfortunately Meg showed no progress in terms of dilation. Are you ready for the good news??? The doctor said, "It's time." We are scheduled to go to the hospital tonight at 6. There, we will be greeted by one of our favorite doctors. She will give Meg Cervidil to help ripen her cervix (and will hopefully calm Meg's nerves...she's good like that!) Tomorrow morning another doc will come in to check Meg's progress. She will most likely break Meg's water and administer Pitocin. One Week Later...

It has been 7 days since the birth of our beautiful little girl and I've already learned so much...Here are the highlights so far... 1. I've learned how to change a wet diaper. 2. Keeping with number 1, I've learned that if I don't change Avery's diaper fast enough or if I try to change her before she fully wakes up Avery will pee on me! (definitely not just a boy thing!) 3. I've learned how to change a poopy diaper. 4. Keeping with number 3, I've learned that Avery can (and will) projectile poop if I don't change her diaper fast enough (happened twice so far!) 5. I've learned how to swaddle Avery (Meg is still much better at this than I am!) 6. I've learned how to make a bottle. 7. I've learned how to burp Avery..I'm kind of an expert! 8. I've learned how to tell when Avery is hungry (she does this weird thing with her tongue...Meg calls it rooting...I call it "Barney Crouch-ing"...after the guy in Harry Pot...
