OB appointment and overall update

Today marks 37 weeks 5 days. We have approximately 15 days until Avery's due date!!! Megan is feeling extremely crampy today. She is also experiencing some pressure "down there."

At the OB appointment, we found out that Meg gained 3 pounds since our last visit...This brings her total weight gain to 23 lbs (there were a few weeks where she maintained and/or lost weight)

It took the technician a few seconds to find Avery's heartbeat. I probably would have been freaking out had we not felt her move in the car. Fortunately, she was hanging out on the left side and holding steady in the 130's (apparently they noted Meg's chart that Avery is usually on the right) She's not even born yet and she's already proving to be a stubborn little ram!

The doctor came in and asked us if we had any concerns. Meg told her about the cramping and diarrhea. She said that it sounded promising and that the human body does amazing things when preparing for child birth.

She performed an internal exam on Meg and said that Meg's cervix is not quite opened, but she could feel Avery's head pushing down.

I asked her if she could pull Avery out. She laughed and, of course, said, "No." She then said that everything is progressing just as it should be and looks perfect! Oh! She also said that she is predicting Avery to be a 7-7.5 lb baby.

I told her that I predict that Megan will go into labor this weekend (Both Megan's family and my family have plans to be out of town).

She laughed and said she is working in the hospital this weekend and would see us there! Before she closed the door, she winked and said, "Stranger things have happened."

Come on Avery!!!

    Hi! Just added myself to your blog after reading your posts since you started trying. Feel a bit stalkerish, I have to admit. Anyway, my partner and I are 8 days post first IUI. We are so excited, and feel positive. Thanks for blogging all of this. It makes me feel like we aren't the only two girls in the world trying to make a nugget! Congratulations!!

      I LOVE new friends, so stalk away! I can't believe you just finished your first IUI...feels like forever ago, yet I can still remember it clearly (probably because I blogged about EVERYTHING!) I sincerely hope you both have beginners luck! Congratulations on starting the process. It's an emotional rollercoaster, but totally worth it! Now I'm going to be anxious to hear from you in addition to being anxious about Avery's anticipated arrival!

    Completely anxious! I am a teacher and I have been having the hardest time focusing! I will be up there teaching and my mind completely drifts to baby thoughts. We test next Monday, so I will keep you posted!

    I teach fifth grade. We are getting close to state testing (starts next week) and between the two I am a ball of nerves! We took an ept last night and this morning, both BFN, but it is only day 10. I am really hoping for a positive tomorrow or Saturday. We have noticed a lot of "symptoms," but I am really hoping we weren't just reading too much into every little thing :-/

Combating gas

Hmm..where do I even begin? Avery has been a great baby from the very first day she was born. So great that she pretty much slept through everything in the hospital (including her hearing test, doctor check up, and some of her hospital photoshoot) When we brought her home it was more of the same. She was a typical sleepy newborn. She rarely cried and was rather predictable. Her only problem was gas. By the time Avery was 2 weeks old, we had switched her to Enfamil Gentlease. It seemed to work better than the Enfamil newborn, but Avery still suffers from gas on occasion.  We tried adding gripe water into her bottles. This caused Avery to develop a rash all over her body (which ultimately made her more uncomfortable). Our most recent attempt revolved around Little Tummies. While the drops do seem to calm her, they only work temporarily. Oh, and Avery despises the taste of them (despite their "berry flavor"). Seriously, I'm waiting for her to foam at the mouth one day!

One Week Later...

It has been 7 days since the birth of our beautiful little girl and I've already learned so much...Here are the highlights so far... 1. I've learned how to change a wet diaper. 2. Keeping with number 1, I've learned that if I don't change Avery's diaper fast enough or if I try to change her before she fully wakes up Avery will pee on me! (definitely not just a boy thing!) 3. I've learned how to change a poopy diaper. 4. Keeping with number 3, I've learned that Avery can (and will) projectile poop if I don't change her diaper fast enough (happened twice so far!) 5. I've learned how to swaddle Avery (Meg is still much better at this than I am!) 6. I've learned how to make a bottle. 7. I've learned how to burp Avery..I'm kind of an expert! 8. I've learned how to tell when Avery is hungry (she does this weird thing with her tongue...Meg calls it rooting...I call it "Barney Crouch-ing"...after the guy in Harry Pot

First Visit to the Pediatrician

Avery had her first doctor's appointment today. She did well. She didn't gain any weight, but she didn't lose any either (still 6lbs 10 oz). The doctor told us that she looked great. He said that her "Angel's kiss" (pink mark above her eye) will continue to fade. He also pointed out her "Stork bite" (it's a red mark...kind of looks like a rash...on the back of her neck) and said that too will fade with time. We weren't worried...we didn't even know it existed (it's covered by her hair!) I think Meg and I were more phased by the appointment than her. She had a wet diaper and they suggested we change her on the community changing table. They had the paper roll to cover the table, but all we could think of was GERMS! Then, there was a little girl who walked way too close and coughed (yuck!) Needless to say, when we got home we took off all of our clothes (and Avery's) and washed all of our hands.
