Realizations and 15 week photos!!!

Meg and I came to a few realizations today...

1. Gap Maternity has one of the most organized and stylish maternity sections that we have come across thus far. It even had a bathroom!!! With the sale ($40 off every $100 you spend), it was the perfect place to purchase a dress for Meg's cousin's upcoming wedding!

2. The stores A Pea in a Pod, Motherhood Maternity, and Destination Maternity are not one in the same! While they accept the same gift card, $75 to A Pea in a Pod buys virtually nothing! Seriously, the jeans were $119.50!!! For that price, they should automatically dress you! Needless to say, we did NOT buy a pair. Instead, Meg purchased a shirt and a boppy pillow...(which brings me to my next realization)

3. The boppy body pillow is loved by both pregnant women and dogs! (funny how they don't advertise that on the brochure) *WARNING* The pillow may cause your wife to speak in a whiney voice until you correctly position it...take my advice, DO NOT tell her she needs to stop whining!

While Meg is almost 16 weeks pregnant, here are her 15 week photos (as promised). If you backtrack to the 12 week pictures you can definitely notice a difference...It's funny, people are starting to tell her she's putting on weight (she has only gained 4 lbs)..my family members even reached out to touch her belly last night. LOVE IT!

Her belly is definitely low...does that mean it's going to be a boy?

    As with everything else pregnancy related, I'm sure the "low belly" means nothing and will change as it grows.

    Tommie's belly is low too. And it's funny cuz we found gap maternity not helpful at all! But I think that's cuz Tommie is only 5'2 and gap didn't have much in the short or petite department. We went to motherhood and found everything we needed - we only bought jeans though. As for shirts, again since Tommie is so short, most regular shirts will fit as they are usually super long anyways!

    Did ya'll but the standard boppy or one of the others? I need to get Tommie one but wasn't sure which is best.

    Compared to Old Navy and Target, the Gap was amazing! We like Motherhood maternity..it was the pea in the pod that was outrageous!

    As for the boppy, I'm not sure what it's called (I'll have to go look at the package) but it's the one you can wrap all around your body. It was $54 plus tax. They also had another one called a snoodle or something like that.

    Meg slept well! I want one!!

    I hear you on the sizes..that's one of the problems we found with old navy and target. The clothes are scattered everywhere-makes it extremely difficult to find xsmall and small.

    I swear, every time I think of you and think I should message you, you beat me to it! Doesn't she look cute?

    As far as the boppy goes, I'm so jealous!!! If they weren't $50 I'd buy myself one!!!

Combating gas

Hmm..where do I even begin? Avery has been a great baby from the very first day she was born. So great that she pretty much slept through everything in the hospital (including her hearing test, doctor check up, and some of her hospital photoshoot) When we brought her home it was more of the same. She was a typical sleepy newborn. She rarely cried and was rather predictable. Her only problem was gas. By the time Avery was 2 weeks old, we had switched her to Enfamil Gentlease. It seemed to work better than the Enfamil newborn, but Avery still suffers from gas on occasion.  We tried adding gripe water into her bottles. This caused Avery to develop a rash all over her body (which ultimately made her more uncomfortable). Our most recent attempt revolved around Little Tummies. While the drops do seem to calm her, they only work temporarily. Oh, and Avery despises the taste of them (despite their "berry flavor"). Seriously, I'm waiting for her to foam at the mouth one day!

One Week Later...

It has been 7 days since the birth of our beautiful little girl and I've already learned so much...Here are the highlights so far... 1. I've learned how to change a wet diaper. 2. Keeping with number 1, I've learned that if I don't change Avery's diaper fast enough or if I try to change her before she fully wakes up Avery will pee on me! (definitely not just a boy thing!) 3. I've learned how to change a poopy diaper. 4. Keeping with number 3, I've learned that Avery can (and will) projectile poop if I don't change her diaper fast enough (happened twice so far!) 5. I've learned how to swaddle Avery (Meg is still much better at this than I am!) 6. I've learned how to make a bottle. 7. I've learned how to burp Avery..I'm kind of an expert! 8. I've learned how to tell when Avery is hungry (she does this weird thing with her tongue...Meg calls it rooting...I call it "Barney Crouch-ing"...after the guy in Harry Pot

First Visit to the Pediatrician

Avery had her first doctor's appointment today. She did well. She didn't gain any weight, but she didn't lose any either (still 6lbs 10 oz). The doctor told us that she looked great. He said that her "Angel's kiss" (pink mark above her eye) will continue to fade. He also pointed out her "Stork bite" (it's a red mark...kind of looks like a rash...on the back of her neck) and said that too will fade with time. We weren't worried...we didn't even know it existed (it's covered by her hair!) I think Meg and I were more phased by the appointment than her. She had a wet diaper and they suggested we change her on the community changing table. They had the paper roll to cover the table, but all we could think of was GERMS! Then, there was a little girl who walked way too close and coughed (yuck!) Needless to say, when we got home we took off all of our clothes (and Avery's) and washed all of our hands.
