A Day We'll Remember

I wanted to leave school a few minutes early today for our 15 week OB appointment, but life had other plans. I called Meg (on my way) to say that I would be a little late and she informed me that the appointment was at the Lawrenceville office not the Yardley office (which tacked on an extra 17 minutes to the 40 minute ride!!!)

I started to get nervous that I wouldn't make it to the appointment. I mean, I left school around 3:10 and our appointment was at 3:30, but I weaved in and out of traffic and managed to make it to the office shortly before 4.

As I was parking, Natalie Merchant's "These are days" came on. You know my thing with music...naturally, I made a connection!

These are days you'll remember

Never before and never since, I promise
will the whole world be warm as this
and as you feel it, you'll know it's true
that you are blessed and lucky
it's true, that you are touched by something
that will grow and bloom in you

As I listened to the lyrics, it dawned on me that we were about to hear the heartbeat. (The last time we heard the heartbeat was at our 8 week appointment at the fertility clinic) I couldn't help, but think how fortunate we are to be able to share our lives together and to experience this wonderful little miracle.

I really can't put into words how much we already love this baby (which is only the size of an apple!) I (we) think about him/her everyday. We've even started a nightly ritual of tummy time!! (might sound silly, but I just place my hand on Meg's belly while Meg and I talk about our life) It's my favorite time of day.

Ok, enough with the sentimental, mushy stuff...like last time, we waited an hour and a half before we were called back to a room. The nurse took Meg's blood pressure and recorded her weight. She then listened to the baby's heartbeat using the doppler. No more fart gas for Meg!!! The heartbeat was as clear as day. (the nurse said it was strong at 142 and that anything in between 120 and 160 is good!) Way to go, baby W!

We then waited to see the doctor (she's the third one we have seen out of 6). She was very nice and said everything looked great. She took us to get Meg's blood drawn and said Congratulations and was out of our hair in less than 10 minutes.

We made our next appointment for December 9th (it's a Friday!) Meg and I made an early appointment so we don't have to waste time waiting. So, in 5 weeks, we'll find out the sex of the baby and the doctor will check all of his/her organs. We can't wait! The days are flying by. It will be here before we know it.

I guess Natalie Merchant was right...these are days we'll remember :-)

In other news, Congratulations to our friends Tara Lyn and Jason on the birth of their daughter, Violet Mae!! We love you!!!

Happy Birthday to Meg!!!

  1. awww that sucks they didn't give you a sneak peak at the sex!

  2. No, we've decided not to do the 3d ultrasound. It would have been cool to get an idea, but waiting until December won't be that bad. Meg has off and will be finished student teaching. I'm going to take off and after our appointment we'll go shopping and then call our families (not necessarily in that order!) I'm looking forward to it...it's a good excuse for a three day weekend! :)

    How are you?

  3. We are great! We just had our 19wk appt today, was pretty neat to see everything -- hint hint, our US tech gave us a copy of the whole US on disk today - was much easier than me videotaping. Maybe you can get one too!
And I woulda went crazy if I had to wait so long! LOL....but they could have gotten it wrong at 15 wks, but they didn't!

  4. Our ultrasound wasn't performed by the tech..it was performed by the doctor because he couldn't find the heartbeat using the doppler (Meg was too gassy) so we didn't even get a picture.

The next one (20 weeks) will be the real deal. I'm going to bring the flipcamera just in case, but maybe we will get a disk. That would be really cool!

    Glad you are doing well!
