Avery's First Beach Trip

Yesterday Meg and I took Avery to Long Beach Island. While it was way too hot to set foot on the sand or even take a walk, we had a great time driving down and hanging out in my grandparents' air conditioned house!

Here are some pictures from yesterday's excursion...

Avery was great...She LOVED the ceiling fans and slept peacefully through both of her naps.





















Avery loved being the center of attention (as usual)!








































She enjoyed spending time with her great grandparents (I'm pretty sure they loved it too!!)
































But nothing compared to spending quality time with her moms...


I think it's safe to say that this happy little girl will grow up loving LBI as much as Meg and I do...

















BONUS:

I managed to catch Avery's first attempt at a roll (Don't get too excited. She's far from rolling over, but her smile is too cute for words!)


Meg Update:

Meg had her 6 week OB check up on Tuesday. All of our favorite nurses came out to sneak a peak of Avery while we were sitting in the waiting room. It's so amazing how many people love this little girl (including many of you)...As far as the visit went, the doctor said everything looked great and that Meg's episiotomy healed perfectly.

Unfortunately, the doctor also told us that she will be leaving the practice in August (She's moving to DC to be with her husband. Apparently they've been living apart for the past year!!!)

The only other news I have to report is that Meg got her period on Wednesday. She's slightly uncomfortable from that, but otherwise is doing well.

Combating gas

Hmm..where do I even begin? Avery has been a great baby from the very first day she was born. So great that she pretty much slept through everything in the hospital (including her hearing test, doctor check up, and some of her hospital photoshoot) When we brought her home it was more of the same. She was a typical sleepy newborn. She rarely cried and was rather predictable. Her only problem was gas. By the time Avery was 2 weeks old, we had switched her to Enfamil Gentlease. It seemed to work better than the Enfamil newborn, but Avery still suffers from gas on occasion.  We tried adding gripe water into her bottles. This caused Avery to develop a rash all over her body (which ultimately made her more uncomfortable). Our most recent attempt revolved around Little Tummies. While the drops do seem to calm her, they only work temporarily. Oh, and Avery despises the taste of them (despite their "berry flavor"). Seriously, I'm waiting for her to foam at the mouth one day!

One Week Later...

It has been 7 days since the birth of our beautiful little girl and I've already learned so much...Here are the highlights so far... 1. I've learned how to change a wet diaper. 2. Keeping with number 1, I've learned that if I don't change Avery's diaper fast enough or if I try to change her before she fully wakes up Avery will pee on me! (definitely not just a boy thing!) 3. I've learned how to change a poopy diaper. 4. Keeping with number 3, I've learned that Avery can (and will) projectile poop if I don't change her diaper fast enough (happened twice so far!) 5. I've learned how to swaddle Avery (Meg is still much better at this than I am!) 6. I've learned how to make a bottle. 7. I've learned how to burp Avery..I'm kind of an expert! 8. I've learned how to tell when Avery is hungry (she does this weird thing with her tongue...Meg calls it rooting...I call it "Barney Crouch-ing"...after the guy in Harry Pot

First Visit to the Pediatrician

Avery had her first doctor's appointment today. She did well. She didn't gain any weight, but she didn't lose any either (still 6lbs 10 oz). The doctor told us that she looked great. He said that her "Angel's kiss" (pink mark above her eye) will continue to fade. He also pointed out her "Stork bite" (it's a red mark...kind of looks like a rash...on the back of her neck) and said that too will fade with time. We weren't worried...we didn't even know it existed (it's covered by her hair!) I think Meg and I were more phased by the appointment than her. She had a wet diaper and they suggested we change her on the community changing table. They had the paper roll to cover the table, but all we could think of was GERMS! Then, there was a little girl who walked way too close and coughed (yuck!) Needless to say, when we got home we took off all of our clothes (and Avery's) and washed all of our hands.
