A baby filled weekend (21 week pictures!)

Meg and I (and our friend Amanda) had an impromptu dinner date on Friday night with our friend, (and Avery's Aunt), Trish.

We met at Whole Foods. There, Trish bought Avery a Kimochi! Kimochi's are toys to teach feelings. They are so cute, so it's hard to choose just one.

We settled on Huggtopus. "Huggtopus is all smiles and hugs. She is very affectionate and strong and sometimes gets carried away by her big friendly personality. Her favorite number is 8. Her favorite color is pink. She has a special fondness for bubblegum and plays the xylophone."











On Saturday, Meg's parents came up to install our new stainless steel microwave (our Christmas gift) and to drop off bins of Meg's niece's clothing. Meg's dad was joking around saying that we would never have to buy clothes again (unless we wanted to).

After sorting through the bins Saturday night, I think it's safe to say he was right!









































We sorted the bins and tried to calculate when Avery would wear the clothes...it was amusing! The clothes from 0-9 months went into Avery's closet while the 12-24 months went back into the big tupperware. We put the 9-12 months on top of the tupperware.

Of course, Meg wants them to be even more organized, but we'll save that project for another day! For now, here's how the closet is looking (ignore the screens...Meg took them out of the windows to hang Christmas swags)

















We found this outfit while Christmas shopping for family and friends. We couldn't resist!








































Last, but not least...Here are Meg's 21 week photos...Avery is the length of a carrot!


I made fun of Meg for holding the carrot like a knife, but at least you can see how big her belly is getting!

Oh, in other news, Avery has become very active! She was kicking last night at 10, this morning at 3:40, and all throughout the day. 

It used to be only around 7pm when Meg would say, "Come here," and grab my hand. Now it's all the time! We LOVE IT!

Combating gas

Hmm..where do I even begin? Avery has been a great baby from the very first day she was born. So great that she pretty much slept through everything in the hospital (including her hearing test, doctor check up, and some of her hospital photoshoot) When we brought her home it was more of the same. She was a typical sleepy newborn. She rarely cried and was rather predictable. Her only problem was gas. By the time Avery was 2 weeks old, we had switched her to Enfamil Gentlease. It seemed to work better than the Enfamil newborn, but Avery still suffers from gas on occasion.  We tried adding gripe water into her bottles. This caused Avery to develop a rash all over her body (which ultimately made her more uncomfortable). Our most recent attempt revolved around Little Tummies. While the drops do seem to calm her, they only work temporarily. Oh, and Avery despises the taste of them (despite their "berry flavor"). Seriously, I'm waiting for her to foam at the mouth one day!

One Week Later...

It has been 7 days since the birth of our beautiful little girl and I've already learned so much...Here are the highlights so far... 1. I've learned how to change a wet diaper. 2. Keeping with number 1, I've learned that if I don't change Avery's diaper fast enough or if I try to change her before she fully wakes up Avery will pee on me! (definitely not just a boy thing!) 3. I've learned how to change a poopy diaper. 4. Keeping with number 3, I've learned that Avery can (and will) projectile poop if I don't change her diaper fast enough (happened twice so far!) 5. I've learned how to swaddle Avery (Meg is still much better at this than I am!) 6. I've learned how to make a bottle. 7. I've learned how to burp Avery..I'm kind of an expert! 8. I've learned how to tell when Avery is hungry (she does this weird thing with her tongue...Meg calls it rooting...I call it "Barney Crouch-ing"...after the guy in Harry Pot

First Visit to the Pediatrician

Avery had her first doctor's appointment today. She did well. She didn't gain any weight, but she didn't lose any either (still 6lbs 10 oz). The doctor told us that she looked great. He said that her "Angel's kiss" (pink mark above her eye) will continue to fade. He also pointed out her "Stork bite" (it's a red mark...kind of looks like a rash...on the back of her neck) and said that too will fade with time. We weren't worried...we didn't even know it existed (it's covered by her hair!) I think Meg and I were more phased by the appointment than her. She had a wet diaper and they suggested we change her on the community changing table. They had the paper roll to cover the table, but all we could think of was GERMS! Then, there was a little girl who walked way too close and coughed (yuck!) Needless to say, when we got home we took off all of our clothes (and Avery's) and washed all of our hands.
